CTP has partnered with the Raben Group, one of the largest logistics companies in the world, to complete the installation of Europe’s largest heat pump, and the second-largest in the world, at CTPark Warsaw West.
The Raben Group’s installation of 87 Mitsubishi Electric units with a total capacity of 12.4 MW will heat and cool two warehouses with a total area of 110,000 square meters.
Warsaw West is a zero-emission industrial and logistics park, with no fossil fuels used to heat the buildings, and rooftop photovoltaic installations powering the Mitsubishi Electric heat pumps.
In 2023 the Raben Group signed an agreement with CTP to lease 110,000 square meters at CTPark Warsaw West in Wiskitki in what was Poland’s largest logistics deal of that year. The Raben Group is due to move into these buildings later this year, and will use them to carry out warehousing and forwarding operations with a range of added services, including packing and contract logistics.
According to CTP, “at the Raben Group’s space at the park a number of modern solutions are being implemented to meet Raben’s decarbonization strategy. This includes climate control of warehouse space (humidity and temperature control and heating of warehouses) through heat pumps, which is the current standard for new Raben Group buildings. The use of heat pumps combined with highly efficient underfloor heating technology ensures efficient use of electricity, minimiing carbon dioxide emissions into the environment. The estimated effect of these technologies used will be a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 700 – 750 MgCO2e/year compared to an equivalent warehouse space heated with gas.”
“We are proud that our EAHV-M1500YCL-N Mitsubishi Electric units were selected for such an ambitious project at CTPark Warsaw West,” said Piotr Gesla, Deputy Division Manager Mitsubishi Electric. “These high-tech heat pumps are perfectly suited to Raben Group’s needs, offering flexibility in adjusting heating and cooling capacity and reliable operation even in extreme weather conditions. What sets this installation apart on the warehouse and logistics market is its scale and innovation, making it the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world. The CTPark Warsaw West complex, thanks to its zero-emission approach and integration with photovoltaic systems, has created ideal conditions for the implementation of the project, which not only meets the highest ecological standards, but also allows Raben Group to achieve significant operational efficiency and compliance with their ESG strategy.”
“The Raben Group’s long-standing co-operation with CTP across various European markets has resulted in the joint development of one of the most modern warehouse spaces in Poland (approximately 110,000 square meters),” explained Tomasz Spychalski, Group Facility Manager, Raben Real Estate. “Ensuring the highest standards, safety of operations and minimising their impact on the environment is a challenge and a primary goal for us. We decided to apply a number of modern solutions, rarely found on the warehouse market on such a large scale, which are part of Raben Group’s decarbonisation strategy. Among other things, we applied climate control of warehouse space (humidity and temperature control and heating of warehouses) realised by means of heat pumps – the current standard for new Raben Group buildings. The use of heat pumps combined with highly efficient underfloor heating technology ensures efficient use of electricity, minimising carbon dioxide emissions into the environment. We estimate that the effect of the technologies used will be a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 700 – 750 MgCO2e/year compared to a standard warehouse space heated with gas of an equivalent size.”
“We have been working with the Raben Group in different parts of Europe for more than a decade,” said CTP Managing Director Piotr Flugel. “Establishing long-term partnerships is one of the pillars of our business strategy. The contract with the Raben Group for the space at Warsaw West was signed for a period of 10 years, allowing the tenant to invest in such an extensive heat pump installation, which will allow it to optimize its ongoing operating costs, as well as implement its ESG strategy. This project also confirms CTParks’ ability to adapt to the precise expectations and needs of our customers. We are proud that CTPark Warsaw West will house the largest Mitsubishi Electric heat pump installation in the world outside Japan.”
EAHV-M1500YCL-N Mitsubishi Electric units were installed in the facilities, grouped into eight cascades for underfloor heating in each building. The installation included 150 kilometers of pipes — a record on the Polish market — making it possible to separate zones of different temperatures in the warehouses. The four cascades also produce chilled water, which is used to cool down the storage space using heating and cooling apparatus. The entire system is grouped into modules of 2 to 24 units, using their assigned hydraulics.
According to CTP, each of the heat pumps installed at CTPark Warsaw West has four cooling circuits and uses inverter compressors to guarantee a range of options for adjusting the heating and cooling power as necessary. The function of compressor rotation and unit redundancy, meanwhile, provides a high level of reliability of the entire system regardless of the prevailing conditions. The units used were designed to allow the heating mode to be carried out even at external temperatures reaching -20 C.
