Ghelamco has announced that demolition work on the pavilions that were the headquarters of Gdynia sailing clubs in the seaside part of the center of Gdynia, to free up space for the construction of the new Nova Marina Gdynia, a joint investment by Ghelamco and PZZ.
The Ghelamco/PZZ joint venture was announced last summer (as reported by CEE Real Estate Matters on August 30, 2024 (here)).
According to the Ghelamco website, “this week, the first preparatory works preceding the construction of Nova Marina Gdynia began. They include demolition of facilities from the early 1970s, consisting of commercial parts and hangars intended for servicing and maintaining yachts, whose glory days were long gone.”
“This is another step that brings us closer to the implementation of the ambitious Nova Marina Gdynia project,” said Jaroslaw Zagorski, Managing Director of Ghelamco Poland. “In parallel with the demolition works, we are at the stage of finalizing the tender procedure in terms of selecting the general contractor and obtaining financing for the investment. As soon as we complete these activities, we will be able to start the actual construction. We will do everything in our power to make Nova Marina ready for the most important and largest event in the world – next to the Olympic Games – in sports sailing, the World Sailing World Championships, which Gdynia will host in 2027.”
Until the Nova Marina Gdynia project is finished — about two years from now, according to Ghelamco — replacement premises for clubs were created right next to the Gdynia marina, opposite the headquarters of the Arka Gdynia Municipal Sailing Club. The Polish Yacht Club Gdynia, the Gryf Morski Yacht Club, the Opti CWM Sailing Club, the Stal Gdynia Yachting Club, and the Pomeranian Sailing Association have moved into temporary headquarters under an agreement with Ghelamco and the Polish Sailing Association.
“We are pleased that thanks to the cooperation between PZZ and Ghelamco, Pomeranian sailors will gain their new home,” said Tomasz Chamera, Vice President of World Sailing, who until recently held the position of President of the Polish Sailing Association. “Nova Marina Gdynia will maintain the rich sailing traditions of our city and the historic location on the Southern Pier – here sailing has always been, is and will be. We have made sure that the interests of our community are fully secured, and the infrastructure is conducive to the development of both young sailing adepts and experienced sailors. This investment will be an important step towards strengthening our sport in terms of infrastructure and economy, as well as further proof that Gdynia remains the undisputed capital of Polish sailing.”
The Nova Marina Gdynia project, for which a building permit has already been issued, includes, among other things, boathouses, club rooms, and on the upper floors, premises with a view of the port or marina, where the overnight function will be implemented. An underground garage will be located under the building.
