In mid-December 2024, the Zucca restaurant debuted in the mixed-use Renoma facility in Wroclaw. The restaurant, created by famous restaurateur Karol Szafraniec, covered approximately 270 square meters in the southern atrium on the ground floor of the Renoma building, next to the popular Dinette restaurant.
Zucca is a restaurant with a pizzeria, with a design inspired by the Italian aesthetics of the 60s. The decor refers to individual regions of Italy, combining their characteristic features, and the Zucca menu consists of classic Italian dishes.
“Our goal was to create a place that would become synonymous with Italian hospitality and taste,” explained Zucca owner Karol Szafraniec. “I wanted our guests to travel back in time to the best stylish places from the Italian period of prosperity. We prepared for them a place full of truth, joy, colors and enthusiasm. Zucca is a project completely different from the rest of our places – it has not only a unique DNA due to the interiors and the menu, but above all a fantastic team. Thanks to their tireless energy, infectious enthusiasm, ingenuity and talent, Zucca has gained popularity and respect of customers from day one.”
Renoma is one of three office and retail projects in the Globalworth Poland portfolio, alongside Warsaw’s Hala Koszyki and Katowice’s Supersam. Globalworth describes it as “one of the most recognizable buildings in Wroclaw and an icon of modernist architecture.” The building, designed by Berlin architect Hermann Dernburg, first opened in 1930 as Dom Towarowy Wertheim, decorated with sculptures of heads of people from different regions of the world. Those heads still exist today, which Globalworth says “symboliz[es] not only the international origin of the goods offered, but above all cultural diversity and openness to other people.” Destroyed during World War II, the building was partially rebuilt and opened in 1948 as Powszechny Dom Towarowy, though all of its floors were not put into use until 1985. The building took on its current name, selected in a competition by the residents of Wroclaw, in 1997. In 2009, Renoma was rebuilt and expanded according to the design of Wroclaw architect Zbigniew Mackow.
In 2023, during additional renovation, the pre-war architecture of the courtyards was restored, the tenant list was expanded, and the building was given new functions and amenities.
“The opening of the Zucca restaurant is a joint success, showing how long-term cooperation can develop and mutual trust between the owner and the tenant can bear fruit,” said Barbara Wojcik, Asset Management & Leasing Director, Globalworth in Poland. “The restaurants owned or co-owned by Karol Szafraniec have also been successfully operating for many years in another mixed-use facility belonging to Globalworth, in Warsaw’s Hala Koszyki. The Zucca lease agreement was signed for 10 years, which will enable both parties to stable business development.”
